Characterization of Microstructural Damage and Failure Mechanisms in C45E Structural Steel under Compressive Load

چکیده
In this paper, the microstructural damage evolution of a steel with ferrite–pearlite microstructure (C45E) was investigated during process cold upsetting. The development and accumulation were analyzed in different areas samples that deformed at strain levels. scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results showed various mechanisms nucleation microcavities occurred upsetting process. quantitative terms, predominantly generated pearlite colonies due to fracture cementite lamellae. addition, mechanism decohesion had significant influence on macroscopic crack, since high level microcracks, especially higher degrees deformation, observed ferrite/pearlite or ferrite/ferrite interfaces. It found distribution along equatorial plane sample not uniform, as density increased increasing level. stress state, i.e., triaxiality, also analyzed.

Ultimate Load Capacity and Behavior of Thin-Walled Curved-Steel Square Struts, Subjected to Compressive Load
There have been some experimental tests on hollow curved-steel struts with thin-walled square sections, in order to investigate their general behavior, particularly their capacity for bearing differing loads. One set of square tubes are cold-formed into segments of circular arcs with curvature radii, equal to 4000 mm. Different lengths of curved struts are fabricated so as to cover a practical ...
متن کاملApplications of Impedance Plane and Magnetic Differential Permeability in Microstructural Characterization of AISI D2 Tool Steel
Two nondestructive electromagnetic/magnetic techniques including hysteresis loop and eddy current methodologies have been used to characterize microstructural changes of AISI D2 cold work tool steel as a result of quench and tempering treatments. To measure the fraction retained austenite in quenched microstructure, six specimens were austenitized in the range of 1000-1130 °C. Samples austenit...
متن کاملMicrostructural Investigation of Deformation and Failure Mechanisms in Polypropylene
The automotive industry continues to expand its use of polymeric materials, which provide more cost effective, strength and durability than metals or ceramics. Thus, a better understanding of the mechanical behavior and microstructural characterization of polymers is essential to develop their improved strength and toughness. This paper describes the deformation and fracture study of commercial...
